I see alot of the yellow hydrant signs where I live in the UK and I wondered what they mean. I take it the signify a hydrant in the vicinity but sometimes they have numbers on top and bottom. What do they mean?

Here's an example: http://www.mawwfire.gov.uk/images/hydrant_sign.gif

The top number is the diameter of the water main pipe - in this case 100mm.

The bottom number is the distance they have to go to find the hydrant plate in the ground - in this case 3m.

Hospital maybe? I have no idea...I live in the US. If it does indicate a hydrant, maybe the numbers signify a coordinate for location for city/firefighter folks.

100th block of grid 3 say.....beats me. Just a wild guess.
