granted: somebody is gonna call me a squid just for asking this but after you call me one, could you explain to me what it is? also realize that calling me a squid is the most generic and thoughtless comment you could make relative to my question. like "duh, somebody was garenteed to say it and think it's just the funniest thing in the world HAHAHAHA your so funny, you kill me, get it? i ask what a squid is and you answer me by saying i am a squid....HAHAHA your hilarious, that's so funny, you should stop riding motorcycles and be a comedian. "
i just wanna know what yall are saying when you call each other squid. got it? thanks

A squid is an irresponsible motorcyclist. The term is derogatory and common among motorcyclists in the United States and is generally associated with a new or reckless motorcyclist seen riding erratically and/or beyond his or her capabilities, often without appropriate riding gear.
Often young, squids are identified by their reckless abandon (speeding, wheelies, stoppies etc.) and by their inappropriate attire (shorts, backwards ball caps, flip flops, wifebeater T-shirt, etc). Such a rider eschews all or most of the protective gear worn by many riders (helmet, gloves, leather jacket, riding pants, and boots) and the social and legal norms of riding behaviour, and as such is looked upon with derision by experienced motorcyclists, who also refer to them as "organ donors", "Zip-Splats", "a Stillie", "Skin Crayons", "Sausage Creatures" ,and "soon-to-be-ex-motorcyclists".
And for the guys above
Derivative of U.S. military culture:
Newly-inducted sailors based in San Diego in the '60s would frequently buy an inexpensive two-stroke motorcyle for transportation while on shore, whether they'd ever ridden before or not. So, there were large numbers of unprotected, inexperienced "marine life" squirting through traffic in a hurry and leaving a trail of black "ink" (smoke) behind them.
"Squid" was also a common derogatory term for sailors:
Recent inductees were called "squids" by more senior sailors, and
All sailors were called "squids" by Marines
An acronym for:
"Stupidly Quick, Underdressed, Ignorant and Dangerous", or
"Stupidly Quick, Underdressed and Imminently Dead"

The 17-year old with a T-shirt, shorts and a helmet riding a Gixxer is a squid.
The guy showing off by riding an 80mph wheelie on the freeway is a squid.
The rider that thinks twisting the throttle makes them a good rider when their chicken strips are wider than their hand is a squid.
The biker weaving in & out of stopped traffic with his girl on the back (both without helmets) is a squid.
It's an acronym, and it stands for Stupid, QUick, and Inevitably Dead, and is used by experienced riders to identify other riders with Immortality Syndrome.

It's a sort of an acronym:
Stupid
QUick
and
Inevitably
Dead
It refers too a noob who buys a motorcycle that's heavy and powerful, enjoys the rush of the power, misjudges a corner, and ends up in a pile. Take a look through the used motorcycles on cycletrader or craigslist or EBay. If you see "salvaged title" "low mileage" "needs TLC" together, odds are pretty good that the first owner was a squid.

Gixxer got it right.
I'd add that when someone calls a stupid rider a "squid" the assumption is that person isn't going to be alive very much longer.

Gixxer's definition is close to the one I grew up with,I.E a squid being reckless and riding beyond their abilities.
For us it was not always a bad thing, sometimes it was just like saying "You are crazy".

LOL....I never thought about it but if you notice dogs run in packs and the average guy has a lot of friends and maybe they see themselves as a pack and ref. to each other as dog. As far as the term boy and girl go it's just a nice way of not calling them something worse I think because the term is usually used when the other person says something simple minded.
