We just recently bought a new home, and I am wondering what to give as a thank you gift to the realtor that helped us out so much. First off, he wasn't OUR realtor. He was one we just happened to call because we found his name on MLS in our area of interest . The way it worked was if we didn't get this place he wouldn't get any money at all(not his listing) . Anyway, we ran into some issues that were very stressful...though they worked out in the end... and he told me and my husband that he and his wife wanted to pay our lawyer's fee because of it all. We were quite surprised and told him 'No, thats not necessary' about a dozen times, because nothing that happened was his fault, but he wouldn't hear it. I want to get them something nice. I was thinking resaurant gift certificate, but was wondering how much ($) of a gift certificate. I also know from being at their home to sign papers his wife collects crystal and they love to drink Fresca. LOL

Please help! Thanks!

It's heartwarming to hear stories of Realtors such as the one you found. As a Realtor, we hear so many stories of how useless and overpaid we are, and I would have to agree that it is true in some cases. Obviously your Realtor is a very caring and helpful agent.

If you insist on a gift, some of what you have described is appropriate. As long as you know some of his likes and dislikes, just try to buy something which will be very appreciated. As a side note, what such Realtors REALLY like is a letter to their managing broker stating what they did and how very much it was appreciated.

I would go with a gift certificate to the restaurant. I would think $50 would be sufficient. Even though his wife collects crystal you don't know what pieces she has or doesn't have so I wouldn't do that. A gift certificate for a restaurant is a great gift that anyone can appreciate. You can still give him a referral when you do know someone who is ready to buy or sell your home.

I would skip the gift certificate- I was thinking more along the lines of a crystal house (like a curio style one)..getting a meaningful gift will let them know they helped you with one of the biggest things in your life and you appreciate them! Also...there's no guarentee on what type of restaurant they like. Along with that token of gratitude...it wouldn't hurt to write a detailed letter of what this person(s) have done for you to the boss! Alot of people receive a promotion or raise or both as a result of this type of activity! That would be an awesome thank you!!!...but do get the little token to so they can be reminded of their good deed.

I think a nice letter of reference would be the perfect gift or locate the agent on Yahoo local real estate and make a nice testimonial. Its free, however agents and the public often will look at testimonials as having value.

You are very kind and thoughful

The best gift I could ever receive is a referral. I'd make a nice letter and send it to ALL my friends, neighbors and relatives telling them how outstanding she was and copy her on the letter and maybe deliver it to her office with a little vase of flowers or something little. And copy her Broker Owner!

As an agent the best gift we can receive from someone is the referal of their friends and family. A letter to their broker telling them how good they were is nice too.

Make a donation to an organization such as Habitat for Humanity or one similar that helps with housing for those less fortunate, in the name of the Agent
