I'm having yet another arguement with my friend. She says current rock (I don't like current rock) like Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance (ewww) is better than older rock(which she hates) like AC/DC, The Doors, Rolling Stones etc. I say the older, classic rock is way better then current rock. What do you think. What you guys say won't change our opinions but I just want to know.

My friend isn't liking these answers. :P I'm 15 and I love classic rock. I don't even listen to today's music so I guess that's why I don't like modern rock. The only time I hear it is when I'm anround my sister, we share a room.

Classic Rock is the best. The problem is, if a new band wanted to have a classic rock sound, it would be tough to get popular nationally. People who love Led Zeppelin or AC/DC would much rather appreciate what they've done in the past than buy music by a new band that sounds similar. Each decade has a different style of "pop music." Today, good rock is not included in pop. So if a band such as "The Who" was to start now instead of back then, they would either fail to become popular, or sound completlely different. I don't think we'll ever be treated to such great music again.

It all comes down to personal preference, there is no right or wrong answer.
With that said, I'm with you all the way. I don't get the new stuff. Sometimes I think I'm just getting older and I'm going to be one of those crotchety old guys whining about how bad the radio is and how great the Beatles were, but it's how I'm feeling.
With THAT said though, there is good new stuff. The new Wilco record for instance is really great. It's got a neat, kind of classic rock sensibility to it. I like the Arcade Fire, the Shins are pretty good, and there are some records I'm excited about that are coming out. Stephen Malkmus is in the studio now, Apollo Sunshine is making another record, the new Mars Volta record is almost done tracking. I get that you're talking about the radio though, and I don't get most of the new popular stuff.
By the way, if you haven't seen them yet. AC/DC live = Totally awesome.

Thank God! Theres hope for kids yet. Im 21 and since I was 8 Ive noticed new music has been going down the drain. New music is okay, I wouldnt say its bad but it does not compare to the classics. The best music in my opponion was made in the late 80's-early 90's

The so called current rock is a bunch of girlish guys who cant sing, I love the original rock, GRUNGE rock gets me going. I also love the older rock when the band members actually know how to play their instruments, not like the current ones who fight over the hair gel to get the combover look. UGH!

I think that as a general rule the music of your own generation tends to carry more favor with you. That being said, classic groups from the 60's and 70's have certainly shown more broad-range staying power across the spectrum than those subsequent, in the 80's, 90's, and 00's.

A girl of your age who listens to classic rock is like most hard thing to find today .in my opinion classic bands are better cause you see they influenced a whole new generation of bands . It is a well known fact that the vocalist from my chemical romance emulates freddie mercury from queen (which was a great band by the way one of favorites)
bands like acdc inspired creation of the heavenly genre of Heavy metal . Jim morrison has been a great role model for the lead singers of today . marliyn manson is inspired by him.
So what i believe is that these classic rockers made and broke genres and influenced many cultures .

I like modern rock because that is what I'm growing up and listening to. I've never heard classic rock, so I can't comment on that. Modern rock rocks!

My 11 year old son likes to listen to the new stuff, but when he plays guitar, he chooses to learn the older stuff like AC/DC, Ozzy, etc.
Probably because the older stuff has more substance and is more technical. More like real music....you know?
I think that says it all.
Personally, I like both. I saw MCR live on the weekend, and they were awesome, but I would probably rather see Rolling Stones or go back in time and see The Doors!

I think a little bit of both. I like the older rock for sure but the newer rock has a little bit of an edge to it. I guss it would depend on my mood. At the gym I could go from one to the other and still keep the same beat.
