Definately a pedal bin in the kitchen-easy to dump stuff if yoour hands are full. I have one made by Simple Human-it is more costly but if you shop you can find discounts(Bed, bath & beyond; Homegoods, etc.) It is good looking out in the kitchen and the lid closes slowly and has a latch to hold it open. Company makes bags to fit which are more expensive than grocery store brands, but they are thicker, fit snugly and seem to hold more.

SimpleHuman has a web site which displays all the styles and colors available but those prices are at full retail.

Costco has had a similar looking trash can for half the price and it has an infrared automatic opener. Cost about 39 dollars. My Dad loved his.

In this day of going green, the grocery store paper bags fit exactly in the Simple Human trash can if you wish.

As a busy mother who does not have time to empty her bin more than five times a day, I find you can cram more into a pedal bin than a push top - obviously you have more clearance in the upper area with a pedal bin.

I'm getting rid of my push-top this weekend - sick of not being able to open the sodding thing.

The deciding factors should be usage, design and cost.

Ask yourself how you use the bin? What do you use it for? I ve noticed that if you're a busy cook (which most of us are in today's rat race!) then the pedal works best because invariably our hands are occupied with something.

Depending on your usage, the design will play an important role.

Last but not the least, the cost is something which will be the deciding factor when you're decided on push and pedal.

Good luck!

If it's in the kitchen, I say padal bin. It's easier to use when you have your hands full. It'll stay cleaner also. In the restroom, either will work equally well. Pedal bins stay cleaner on top and are more sanitary. Hope that helps somewhat!

I love my pedal bin.

Push tops get all icky on the top IMO and are less hygenic.
