I think it has something to do with Microsoft and Anti Virus. My Desktop is doing the same and I am having a pc repair guy coming by today. I think whats happened is that Mircrosoft is no longer going to give free Anti virus and somehow it detects that and it will if you let it go far enough stop you from doing most anything.

Have you installed any new hardware or software lately?
Check your device manager to see if you have any "balloons" (yellow circles with exclamation point) next to any of the devices. If there is a balloon next to a device, find out the problem and fix it (reinstall or replace driver, etc.)
If your problem started after installing or updating a program, uninstall the suspected program and see if it helped.
Finally, just because your anti-virus or anti-spy-ware program did not detect any infection does not necessarily mean the drive is clean. New infections evolve everyday and not all companies are good about keeping up to date.
I have had good luck with a program called "Spy-ware Doctor" (www,pctools.com). The evaluation version will scan your system and report any infections it detects along with their locations. The bad news is you would have to buy the software for it to clean up.
If your careful, you may be able to delete the infected files yourself. But again, BE CAREFUL!!!!

It's probably set to re-boot whenever there is a major problem. That clears the problem but leaves you guessing. Somewhere there is a setting that will make it wait to be re-set so you can read the error details.

If it shuts down by itself, it is definitely a virus. nothing else. you should get anothe annti virus
try kasperskey www.kasperskey.com
The same problem happened to my frinds laptop. I fixed it with kasperskey
