Does your pen drive have a write-protect switch? Looks like the switch is turned on!

I'm sure you would have done a lot of investigation to solve your problem. However, I'm listing the most common causes, just in case you missed any.

There can be four basic reasons why your pen-drive is giving you problems:

1. there should be a tiny switch kind of thing on one of the sides of your pen-drive which is called a lock. this would have been set on by mistake. Switch it off. *[most likely reason]*

2. your pen-drive has a hardware problem. may be because of moisture/dust that seeped in or may be you dropped it accidentally. try blowing it with hot air. [moderate possibility]

3. may be your pen-drive has password protection. verify if you installed any software that came with your pen-drive drivers CD. [possible]

4. the data you are trying to copy is write protected. [unlikely. as you would have checked its property]

There might be a little switch on the side. It will have a lock picture. Switch it to the opposite position.
