The herb Valerian is both a muscle relaxer AND a sleep inducer. It does have a strong smell, so be warned. But it is also effective.

Melatonin works for some people as a natural sleep aid. I sometimes take Inositol, which is in the B-vitamin family, which might work for you. I use the NOW Foods brand (inexpensive, good quality) in 500 mg strength, and take up to 3 before bed. L-Carnitine or Acetyl-L-Carnitine are two different forms of an amino acid that's good for the sore muscles, among other things.

one thing about melatonin. its a hormone so depending on your age don't take it. When you supply an outside source of hormones your body interprets that as a lesser need of it to make it's own hormone. so if you are under 30 I wouldn't recommend that avenue but melatonin levels decline with age so after 30 supplementation would be okay on the short term. Valerian root is my favorite but an old wives remedy is to drink warm milk with a dash of nutmeg in it. The warming activates the tryptophan which is a precursor to serotonin and melatonin and the nutmeg is a hypnotic that can increase the sedative effects of the warm milk. of course you aren't going to halucinate with the nutmeg unless you were to consume an entire nutmeg ball (don't do that btw as you will have a hang over for days). and don't fight the sleep if you can't fall asleep in a certain time just get up and do something and try again.

For sleep you can make this drink:
1 cup milk
1/2 banana
1 Tablespoon Honey
Mash it all together and warm it
This is a great sleep aid.
For sore muscles try regular old aspirin. They have an anti inflammatory that can't be bet. Try the coated aspirin so it won't bother your stomach.

Euculptus is great for the muscles (put it in your bath, salts are great), Tiger balm is good topically for muscle aches. Sleeping- take melatonin. This is the substance naturally produced by the body to make you sleep anyway. You can get it at Walmart.

Some good herbs for promoting sleep are Valerian (although this can sometimes cause stomach upset), passionflower, skullcap, catnip, chamomile, linden flowers. These can all be found as bulk herbs & taste good when made into a tea with a little honey added. If you steep them in milk, it will be even better as warm milk contains triptophan, which also promotes sleepiness (same amino acid that's in turkey)

Melatonin is a vitamin you can take for sleeplessness. I've spoken to people who have taken it and they confirm that it does work well. For your sore muscles try vitamin C. Also, makes sure you are drinking plenty of water and getting enough protein, because both of these are important components in maintaining healthy muscles. I hope this helps! Stay well! :o)
