I have come across these photos of quite large animals pearched high on powerlines and trees, and I thought that maybe some where deposited there by large birds. Of course some photos were altered but some were confirmed to be real. So how much wieght can a really large bird carry? Could they coordinate with others to team up and work together maybe? I know this sounds dumb but ......its just a thought.

I think satan may be wrong on this one -- found this RECORD on the net:

greatest weight-carrying capacity: bald eagle lifting a 6.8 kg (15 lb) mule deer

However, I agree that birds probably do NOT work in tandem to carry heavy loads. Been a birder for many years and have never heard of such a thing.

I not sure. When I was young, I would go night fishing with my dad. Late at night we would hear a cow moo. My dad say, that the mosquitoes carrying off another cow.
So, I guess a big bird should be able to carry a cow.
OK, well, maybe not!
I have seen a Hawk grab up a rabbit with ease. The rabbit as big as the bird. But, I not sure they can lift much more. I just guess around 10 pounds max for a hawk???
I do want to add; A Hawk can take down a large animal in a dive bomb hit. But, it can not lift it.

I tried to find a good video of a Bird of Prey Hunting. But, nothing, it out there, just finding it the hard part. The link is cool and you see "Tilly" flying with a webcam (Well, a camera).

No, two birds cannot work together. They would get in each other's way and not get enough lift.

As for the weight, A VERY large eagle/vulture/etc. could carry up to about 10 - 15 lbs for a short distance. Anything more than that and they would be overloaded and not be able to get off the ground.

A bald eagle weighs about 10 - 15 lbs and they can lift half their weight in fish and carry about a third of their weight for a distance. So best case, a bald eagle, which is a pretty large and strong bird, can lift 7 - 8 lbs.

Most large birds of prey are pretty solitary and aggressive -- I don't think they would cooperate to lift anything larger.

About 20 years ago I saw video footage of an eagle in, I think, Spain that snatched a pretty good sized baby goat off the top of a very tall cliff. It looked like it probably weighed at least 20 pounds.
The eagle was flapping furiously, but the goat was so heavy it kept pulling the eagle towards the bottom of the canyon. Finally after falling about 500 feet, and right before they were about to crash, the eagle was able to stop the fall and fly off with it's catch.
It's probably the most dramatic piece of wildlife footage I've ever seen. I've been searching the internet for this video but haven't been able to find it.

A large bird could carry a large hare, but nothing much larger. Nothing like a deer or a bobcat. I pretty sure two birds couldn't carry one object together.

as far as I know, a harpia (large eagle from south America) can lift monkeys and sloths, pecaris and other mammals... my guess is for around 8 kg (some 16-18 punds). A grown up harpia can weight up to 18 lb.
