Wipe-out for dandelions, now grass full of yellow stains?

Question

I bought wipe-out to kill dandelions. I thought it would kill the dandelions but not a half feet of grass all around it. I really tried to put the product carefully on the root but it really messed up the grass. Now my front yard is full of yellowish grass patches. Any advice on how to bring it back and did I used it wrong? If I used it right, this product is really a bad idea.

If by the way, anyone can also tell me how to buy the best seeds to patch it up and the best way to do so. I'm new with a house and learning. Thanks everyone for your help.

yes... it's wipeout from CIL... I should have bought weedOut... their other product. WipeOut kills everything in a radius of 10 miles... hehe.

Was that WipeOut Total Weed and Grass Killer??

If so, there's your answer to why you have yellow spots. ...it also kills grassy weeds...and grass. That's an "oooops" we are all prone to do.

If you want to reseed those spots, the manufacturer recommends waiting 3-4 weeks before trying to reseed. Depending on the size of each spot, I might just let the grass around fill in the bare areas if the spots are small.

Not knowing exactly what the chemicals are in the herbicide, there appears to be a bit of residual action that might interfere with seeding...and maybe even sodding. If the spots are quite large, wait a bit before trying to mend the areas.

Continue watering and fertilizing as if nothing had happened. If the lawn was healthy otherwise, it will fill in.

The only way I have found to truly get rid of dandelions is to pull them and get the entire root system. Your grass should come back in a few weeks, but I'm afraid you may be stuck with the yellow spots until then. I've done the same thing (different product) and don't know of any remedy except to keep mowing and hope for enough rain to make the grass grow really fast.

Hope someone else has a good remedy for your problem as I hate pulling weeds and would be very interested to see the responses to your question.

Wipe Out should not have hurt your grass unless you applied way too much. The label says it is not to be used on St. Augustine grass. You don't by chance have St. Augustine grass do you? I think St. Augustine is confined almost exclusively to Florida. I have used products containing the same active ingredients as Wipe Out and applied at leas 4 X the recommended application rate and it still did not do any noticeable damage to my bluegrass/fescue/ryegrass lawn.

I don't know the brand name wipe-out.. I'd guess, thought that it is a broad spectrum herbicide and that kills everything.

the label directions should have explained that, though. buy some patch grass seeds and patch 'em up.
