Everyone does at one time or another. I once knew a woman who asked that question, She was a mother, grandmother, artist and raising some of her grandchildren. I asked her where would her second set of children be if it were not hor her, Who could give the love and advice to her kids and grandkids. One son and his wife died in a stuipid car (hit by a drunk driver) her other son is a doctor and spent 2 days at a free clinic, her oldest daughter is amother and lawyer for the poor and the youngest daughter is a professor at a major college.

examine your life and remember every life you touch has meaning

No. I used to think conventional success was meaningless (back in my teens and twenties) but now I realise that it is actually very important.

I spent far too much of my time worrying about stuff I couldn't change (the environment, politics etc) and now I wish I had instead concentrated on furthering my career or travelling or something.

yes all the time, especially when you see the adverts on tele saying about all the crisis's and stuff just makes me want to quit everything and go and help. i think its just guilt kicking in that Ive got everything that i need, i feel secure and so many other people haven't and i want them to have it too- which makes me want to do something more meaningful- maybe i will someday, I'm still only young!

You know, the most meaningful things in life that I do are things I don't get paid for - and it will probably always be that way.
We have to ask ourselves, what is meaningful and to who does it have to be meaningful to to be meaningful?
These are questions of self-esteem, self-concept, and self-worth, don't you think?

Yes, I often used to think that.
These days I don't feel that way as often because I quit my old job and now I work in a museum which I think is a job that improves the happiness of many people who visit my place of work.

Ranging from our personalities... we all desire some sort of fulfillment depending on our character traits (kind people, feel whole helping others... etc..)

So yes, progress in life is ever lasting.

When you accomplish something, you just keep turning to the next.

It's like ... a hunger for more completion. otherwise, you dont feel complete, at all.

If you accomplish your dream, you just dont say "Oh, i accomplished my dream, ok, im done. i can die now"
No, there's still a lot more things to advance you while you are still breathing.

its like eating. you dont just eat one day and say, "oh, okay. im done. im never going to be eating again"

It's got to keep going, as time progresses.

Ok, well, maybe thats a bad example... *sigh* my point is.. depending on our characters.. we have diffrent ways we STILL want to fulfill ourselves with.

Definitely. As far as we know, we only get one shot at life. So better make the most of it eh?

My job is related to helping people, but not directly, and you don't get to see the results of your hard work (other than the mountain of files gradually decreasing). So that's why I'm looking for something else.

yup...sometimes its hard to realize....
more meaningful...means putting your heart to what you are doin and you are certain about it that you love what you're doin so that it gets more meaningful in the end!
"Life" is full of mysteries yet need to be unraveled!
