Hired a "small family business" roofing company - licensed and insured. Six mexicans on my roof for two days, turns out they don't speak a lick of english and their unknowing negligence (covered my exhaust with shingles) made me sick, hospital stay, and time off of work. The contractor has not returned for his money or to complete the work as promised. After speaking with authorities around town I find out he has a terrible reputation. Why is this guy still licensed? What should I do?

Call the better business bureau. If he is licensed and insured, you can sue him. And, you can get medical expenses, pain and suffering, and your work completed to your satisfaction. Good luck!

You should contact your local Better Business Bureau and seriously consider hiring an attorney. Although it sounds like you haven't paid him yet, you still may have suffered some damages. You may be able to recover for your hospital bills and the time missed from work. In addition, you will probably have to pay to have your roof fixed.

As for him employing aliens illegally (or at least appearing to), you could contact DHS, but they typically do not follow up on this. Some localities have made it illegal to employ undocumented workers, but most local police departments do not have the resources to enforce those types of laws.

I would email the Better Business Bureau and ask what they think; http://www.bbb.org/

Good luck with this! I hate when people are taken advantage of like this.
