You can vote for people who support gay rights, donate to the Human Rights Campaign, and/or hug a LGBT community member that you see on the street. Thank you for you support!

You as a stay at home mom, wield quite a bit of power. You are who marketing people target probably harder than anyone else, because you are home during the day. The government loves you. Support gay rights by teaching tolerance and acceptance to your children. Get involved with a local PFLAG group or even a equal rights group. Your voice and opinion are stronger than anyone else's, always remember that!

Good for you for wanting to make a stand and make a difference. That support alone shows that you are a good person and that your kids have an excellent mom!

It is so nice to hear that you want to help support the rights to all Americans. There are so many wonderful things you can do to show your support. You can write a letter, or email to the representatives of your state. Next month is Gay Pride Month, most larger cities have a festival and can always use a few hands to help set up, or hand out info. You can check and see if there is a community group for LGBT in your area, if not work on making one, there is strength in numbers. Ask the high school if they have a group for the students, so many teenagers who realize who they are and feel depressed or feel like the world is against them. The suicide rate is still too high, you can volunteer to talk to them about how they aren't alone, ect. You can also fly the rainbow flag or write a letter to the editor of your paper.

I hope these ideas are helpful for you, It is always great to have more fight for the rights of ALL Americans.

I'm glad you asked that question. I am a 50 year old male who is also heterosexual. My family and I have been rather vocal supporters of equal rights for all citizens (gay and straight). We have taken the approach of speaking out continuously. Especially among straight friends. I may be naive but I still hold to the belief that with enough united voices speaking out reason will prevail.

In addition to that, I really believe we need to become as politically involved as possible. Srely we can find more candidates running who support equal rights (and I mean ALL rights) for all. I'm sick and tired of hearing candidates say "well, I could support civil unions but certainly not gay marriage". I know civil unions would be a huge step, but I still consider it a cop out when a candidate refuses to call for full rights.

One of the best things you could do is to join PFLAG (www.pflag.org). They have all sorts of activities and support efforts that are too numerous to list here. Plus, they have chapters all over the country, with one hopefully near you!

You're exactly right - when we respect each other, we demand that everyone be treated equally. This is part of valuing the worth of every person, even those who may differ from ourselves.

A big star and a warm hug to you!

Speak up, when you hear of ANYONE being disrespected. Teach your kids tolerance for diversity---of all types. Write letters to your local paper. Get involved---in your school and library boards (for diversity in materials and to block attempts at censorship). Join PFLAG (Parents & Friends of Lesbians & Gays), or other civil rights movements. VOTE, VOTE, VOTE! Encourage others to get out and vote, or offer your services as a driver on Election Day. Volunteer as a pollwatcher. Support political candidates that back equal rights---with money or with labor (they can ALWAYS use spare hands to help out). Work with your religious or spiritual community for "open door" policies. Point out that hatred is NOT a family value for anyone. Remind folks that homosexuality is not contagious, in case they haven't heard. If a family member or friend "comes out", be accepting. Read books---it'll help you learn more about people of diversity.

Let's ALL of us---gay/lesbian, bi, straight, celibate---resolve to do something substantial to support diversity in 2007! I'm putting my funds where they'll help kick political behinds.....for women's reproductive choice and for equal-right candidates.

Start by teaching your children (if you have any) not to discriminate against people with different sexual orientations. That is a big step. When you encounter gay people, just treat them with the same respect that you expect in return. This might not seem like a big deal, but these actions can go a long way.

Get involved!
Join a local GLBT organization. They are always happy to have straight supporters!!!

Join HRC and participate in letter writting campaigns and whatever else might be going on in your state. My parents are HRC members and in their fairly rural town they just passed a "Domestic Partnership" motion that allows any couple from any state, county or town to register!! The ACLU actually has a list of the states that will recognize these partnerships as well!
(no, they are not a replacement for legal marriage...and they are available to ANY domestic partnership between two concenting adults....this even goes for elderly straight couples who don't want to loose their medicare/SSN benefits due to a legal marriage!)

You can share your views with others by educating them in forums like this or other social settings.

You can vote for governments that support equality and believes in respect for all human kind. Vote for governments that support legalisation of same sex marriages/civil unions.

You can teach your kids to have respect all peoples regardless of race, sex or orientation. Love them regardless should they be gay or straight.

Join Amnesty Intenational's project outfront. As well as implementing the suggestions of others. Such as voting for gay supporting candidates, etc.

A lot of good ideas posted here.
