in my experience i have had two cars do this to me... there is a rod that attaches to the locking mechanism in your door occasionally it slips off (this is in a case where the inside door handle still opens the door) you won't need to buy any parts if this is the case..you have to pop off the door panel and just slip the end of the rod back in place...if you do find that a part has broken inside your door i have to disagree with Kate, car dealerships ONLY go back seven years in parts available, if you find that part through them i has been sitting a while and will probably be more expensive than going to a place like advanced auto or a junkyard...

chevygurl has it right on all points.

the rod inside the door has come loose from the handle (inner or outer). If after you take the door panel off, you see the clip that holds the rod is broken, you'd be better off going to a junkyard or autozone to get a replacement.

Try the window handle. NO, just a joke. Talk to a mechanic or someone at a automobile body shop.
