Things needed:
Fabric Dye
Rubber Bands or Strings
Water Bath or Metal Pot
Procedure:
1. Fold the fabric whatever way desired.
2. Use the rubber bands or strings to tie around the fabric. Make sure that the part of the fabric you tied is FULLY COVERED.
3. Prepare the water bath by simmering the water and putting the fabric dye in.
4. When the solution is ready, just dip the part of the fabric you want to dye.
Of course, you can get more creative and play with the colors.

You mean household. You can use food colouring but that might not be strong enough for fabrics. Google do it yourself tie dye and I'm sure you will find some great instructions for easy designs.
