Static IP addresses are fixed and dont change. They are used to identify semi-permanent devices with constant IP addresses. Static IP addresses are used by servers.

The static ip addresses can be configured directly on the device or as part of a central DHCP configuration which associates the device's MAC address with a static address.

A static IP address is a number that is assigned to a computer by an Internet service provider (ISP) to be its permanent address on the Internet.

It would be simple if every computer that connects to the Internet could have its own static IP number, but when the Internet was first conceived, the architects didn't foresee the need for an unlimited number of IP addresses. Consequently, there are not enough IP numbers to go around.

An dynamic IP Address is an ip address that is assigned to a computer every time it connects to the Internet. Unlike a static IP address that will be the same every time the user logs on, a dynamic IP address is different every time.

Your ISP is holding ranges of dynamic IPs. Everytime you connect to the internet you will get another one.

With dynamic ip addresses you may need to check your ip very often.

Finding out your dynamic ip is really easy and fast with our free webservice.

Well theres a lot more to that question that you would think. If they have your IP address AND you have no firewall in place to protect the computer, AND you haven't kept the computer patched, then there is a good chance your computer will eventually be compromised. If you install a firewall and keep the computer patched, then you are generally safe from all but the very talented hackers, and they are working on hacking stuff that pays, which would not be a halo server.

For a good firewall check out Comodo, which I'll link to. As far as patched, just keep Automatic Updates running in windows and make sure to apply the patches and reboot about once a week and you should be fine.

Knowing your IP address doesn't make you more susceptable to hacking - and you should have a firewall anyway (which you'll have to open the halo serving ports in)

From your IP address, it is usually possible to work out which state/country you're in and the name of your internet provider. To be able to find out where you live, your internet provider would have to disclose this information, which they only do to the police or other important organisations.

Your IP address is basically your computer's location on the Internet. You can get hacked by people if they know your IP, but it is very difficult, if not impossible, to know exactly where you live from your IP. You can find the area or maybe city, but that's about as close as you can get.
