Yes Much less. When going to a Pawn Shop, you have two choices, sell or Pawn. Sell it and you will get a better price. Pawn it you wont. Pawn is a loan. You will return to pay the loan back. If you dont return, they keep your ring. If you sell it and the Jeweler says $500.00, then you may get $75.00 from the jeweler. Keep in mind the jewelry store is quoting retail. They paid about $100.00 for it. The pawn shop can buy the same ring at wholesale too. So they will offer you less then what they pay for it. Your best bet is put it on Ebay.

Yes they would pawn shops are legal crooks and only out to make a huge profit for example I had a guitar amp I needed to pawn I just bought it that year and had no defects of any Kind. It was the 2nd best amp in the world at the time and it costed me over 3 grand and the pawn shop wanted to only give me 125 bucks for it. Take the 500 and run, apawn shop will only give you a hundred or less for it and then sell it for over a grand.

Yes, pawn shops always pay less for them, then they will turn around and sell it for more than they gave you.
Why don't you try to sell it on E-Bay or even put an ad in the new paper, you may be able to get more for it if it's worth more. At least give it a chance, unless your in a hurry to get the money back now.

Pawn shop give you the least of anyone. If, it worth $500 a pawn shop may give you $100. But, I not really positive. Just go to one and see what they offer you.
As, mentioned you may try craigslist, eBay, or your local classifieds in the newspaper.

Generally, pawn shops always pay less than the real value of items. Peopel only use them when they are desperate or if they want to buy the item back in the near future.

Why don't you try and sell it yourself? If the jeweler is offering $500 It must be worth at least $1000. Take a picture and post it on www.craigslist.org ITS FREE! Any documentation that you have for it (color , clarity, rating, purchase receipt) will be helpful.
