Nick, although American by birth, has lived in Nigeria for ten years because his father works there. Anybody discovered to be gay (committing an gay act) can be convicted and sentenced to:
1. Up to ten years imprisonment in the Christian south.
2. Death in the Islamic north
This is not isolated as there are other countries where similar punishment is handed out. I think that in places like Jamaica - and here in the UK - it is threats by a homophobic minority who are unable to see a few yards before their own eyes! The blind leading the blind - running scared!

They will beat you if they suspect that you are gay. There are more churches per square mile than any where else. They have not been tolerant to the idea because almost ALL of Jamaica is like the bible belt here in the US not just specific areas and that is part of the reason. They are trying to build a gay church there but the people are not having it. I am bisexual and I would never show my sexuality there because i would be afraid of the people.

i was told by a Jamaican some years ago that they put a tyre around a gay persons neck pour petrol over the poor sod and start a fire
then they get kids to watch saying this is what happens if you r a "batty-boy."
i said what would you do if you son was gay
reply was he would disown his son and have nothing to do with him any more

I don't know about killing gays but i do know that many Jamaicans do not like homosexuals and there are plenty of reggae songs which talk about gays in a very demeaning manner.

not sure but Iranians do... http://www.iranfocus.com/uploads/img42e22f8585ae5.jpg
but don't take any chances when you are in a foreign place like Jamaica I'd keep that information to myself. Not to be racist just stay on the safe side. Some countries aren't as open minded as others.

Yes, the carribean community is very homophobic and very ignorant on this subject. You should see if you find and watch the documentary titled batty man it was on CH4 a while back and it will explain every regarding the jamacia and homosexually.
Hopefully in our lifettime, they will start to act right!

It's pretty bad, it's a very closeted homophobic country. The cops there are borderline thugs themselves, and look the other way when they're not participating, as does the country's government. Those that report beatings and rape to the police are publicly humiliated and discredited, and have reported further abuse by the police.

mthere is no evidence( according to Jamaican police) that the gay people beaten to death in Jamaica were beaten because they were gay. Its just a coincidence.

It's not true! It can't be denied that Jamaican society is intolerant to the gay lifestyle but it is not lawless to the extent that more gay people are killed over there than here in the UK.
