One of our ancesters was transported in the 1830's and we would like to know where to and why. Does anyone know where this information can be found in the UK please

Well I'm not sure exactly where to find original sources from, but look around because they are certainly there. But in the 1830's, Perth, Hobart, and Port Arthur (Australia) were still accepting convicts for labour.

I went to my local family history society, and got a floppy disc converted to a CD giving details of court cases up to 1890, from all over the UK, including transportation details. I would ask at the local family history society. Hope this helps you.

Read Robert Hughes' book "The Fatal Shore". It has the whole history of transportation and it will show in the bibliography where he got all of his facts.
