there are known to be solutions to the equations of general relativity that describe spacetimes which contain closed timelike curves, but the physical plausibility of these solutions is uncertain, this would allow matter to return to its past by traveling in a 4-D circle. but the only way today you are going to travel back in time is by traveling in a lear jet. you can leave london and arrive in new york before you left, other than that it would require travelling faster than the speed of light to go visit grandpa as a child

Have you NOT seen Back to the Future?
Of course it's possible! Doc and Marty had a few problems with it, but I think if I got a hold of the de lorean I could do some good things for humanity.
In all seriousness... I've heard it's possible, but you need to enter a black hole.
(from how stuff works.com)
When stars that are more than four times the mass of our sun reach the end of their life and have burned up all of their fuel, they collapse under the pressure of their own weight. This implosion creates "black holes," which have gravitational fields so strong that even light cannot escape. Anything that comes in contact with a black hole's event horizon will be sucked in. The event horizon is the boundary of a black hole at which nothing can escape.
You can think of the shape of a black hole as similar to an ice cream cone. It is large on top and tapers into a point, called a singularity. At the singularity, the laws of physics cease to exist and all matter is crushed beyond recognition.

Hi there.
Sadly not - if time travel were possible for humanity, the time travellers from the future would be here now. Although it could be that humanity died out before time travel was perfected...
So I will still have to go with "No", on the basis that there is no such thing as time. Time is the construct our brains use to map the changing states of matter, i.e. that cat was alive last week/that cat is dead now. The atoms have all changed part of their state and there is nothing to do about it, time is the concept to express the duality of the experience.
Regards, Steve.

Interesting question. To answer this you need to first establish what time travel means. To do this you must establish what is the 'reality' we experience. Is it something like matrix - i.e. this is not our real existence but a 'game' in which we are immersed? If so travelling back in time within the game is limited to the rules of the game so may not be possible. Outside the game maybe time travel may already be possible.
If timetravel were possible in this reality - would you really want to do it?

YES. We are all time travellers now! We are on a one way trip through time, travelling foreward in time all the time.
In answer to your question though, no. We have a number of dimensional problems to solve first, spacial and temporal to get close to solving the problems involved in time travel. Nice thought though, "it's Wednesday so it must be the twenty first Century".

Theoretically yes, some theories, most notably special and general relativity, suggest that suitable geometries of spacetime, or specific types of motion in space, may allow time travel into the past and future if these geometries or motions are possible.

Yes- but for just a few short hours at a time- like when Australia celebrates New Years Eve before we do here in the US!

Theoretically, yes -- with a whole lot of caveats.
You can't travel back in time to a time before the machine was first built.
It requires technology that doesn't currently exist, and will require insane amounts of energy to pull off.
Other than that, have at it!

look that this way, what would happend if u travel faster that the speed of light?, you will simply see the past. worm holes in the space sometimes can be that big that they make a ring shape, if go into one side, for the time you get to the other side, u can see urself get into the hole. ; )

No. If there was a time machine, people would want to travel into the past - so where IS everybody?
