I am usure because the parents are being very over protective even when we turn airstone on (they keep moving them around) They are freely swimming in the tank since this morning. We have ha the filter on but turned because we were worried it may ham them but tank is getting very dirty & weneed it on. There is only the parents in the tank it is thier lot of babies. We have plants(real & artifficial) onaments & gravel in a 2.5' tank, we have not removed anything, should we? we are greatful to any educated response.

Find a sponge that will fit over the filter intake. Also monitor the ammonia because if the filter has been off for more than 24 hours the nitrifying bacteria have all died in the filter. There may be enough outside the filter to keep the tank alive, but if there is no aeration those will die too. To clean the tank you should do small (10%) water changes, siphoning the stuff off the bottom as you go. When you are spawning Angelfish you should have a sponge filter ready(already cycled). Also this is a time when one of those "old fashioned" U/G (under-gravel) filters would be a life saver. For the fish to survive you will need to clean the tank up and also provide aeration for the bacteria.
The parent fish may eat their fry if you go messing around the tank, but that's better than losing all of them to ammonia poisoning. If they do they will spawn again very soon if you can get the water conditions back to the pre-spawning quality, and the parent fish in good condition too.
Isn't it great to watch Cichlid parenting. Angels have always been a favorite of mine.-----Good luck.----PeeTee

Dealing with convict cichlids which are cousin to the angel fish I would suggest placeing some cottom around the intake part of the filter. This help keep my babies from being sucked up and allow the filter to do its work.
