I just did a scan using avg and it says that I have a trojan/java loader. I am not very computer savvy, but I am assuming that this is some kind of virus. What do I need to do to get rid of it.

"Please go to Start > Control Panel > Double-Click on Java Icon > Under Temp Files, go ahead and delete them. That will clear the java cache."

Trojan should now be gone.

Your Java is probably out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. To prevent further infections with this trojan, update your Java at the Sun Java website:
http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp
Then go to your Add / Remove programs and remove any old versions of Java.

In Greek mythology, the Greek army captured the city of Troy by hiding several soliders in a giant horse (the Trojan's favorite god) and left it outside the city. The Trojans took the horse into their city, and than night the soliders slipped out and killed them all in their sleep.

A Trojan Horse virus is something harmful that is hidden inside of another program or application. They offer you a free java program, game, weather alert, spyware scanner, etc. Something (like the giant horse) that you will want and will install on your computer. But hidden inside is something harmful. Thus the name - Trojan Horse.

"Torjan Horse" refers to the method used to get the harmful program on to your computer. In the case you listed, it was hidden inside of some kind of a java program that you downloaded. (No clue WHAT program). If you remove the virus, the free program that it was hidden inside may also stop working.

Usually if your virus scanner tells you it is there, it will also be able to either clean or quarantine it. Rerun the program and let it clean the virus. The only reason it did not do it automatically and told you about it, is that the program it came hidden in may stop working. So the virus scanner wanted to warn you first.

Avg should delete any virus itself. This is a different problem. You need to uninstall java and download updated version. Full instructions here.

it's a virus you get from running java programs you didn't probably notice. even if you remove the trojan sometimes thereis a tendency that it will stay in your computer so be very careful when running programs

Hello,
I recommend to clean up the register in order to improve your pc performances and get rid of malwares. A good program you can use is CCleaner http://j.mp/UrACEA
I guess it's the sotware you need.
Cheers ;)

Update & run your anti virus program, anti spyware program, use a firewall, use Firefox instead of IE. Here are some good links if you need them.
