That SAT score is a problem, but your GPA is good. You should realize that the schools are going to recalculate it leaving out all the crap courses and unweighted (no bonus for Honors). So, you might not qualify for Dartmouth, Middlebury, Providence College or some other elite schools, but there are plenty of other schools that are decent.

So, of course you want to play hockey. Why not check out the college hockey records for schools that have good hockey teams either in Division I or Division II where they give scholarships. If you picked out a few schools that were not the highest ranked academically, then you could probably make a very good case for getting in, and possibly getting a scholarship.... Have your coach send a note to the coach at that school and ask if you can visit. You have to be really careful about how you do this because if you break the NCAA rules you and the college could be in deep sh*t and you will become poison for all the other coaches.

I think you should be able to find a school that is a good fit where you will be able to do well academically, play hockey, and have a great college experience.

Good luck!

Matt is more than right. If you're looking for a hockey school, might I suggest the University of Maine? We have a great campus and a wide variety of academic programs, plus we have the Black Bears hockey teams: The hockey season is pretty much the highlight of the school year.

Good luck with going onto college!
