The motto of my life is, "You have one life to live"... do your best! We do not know what we shall be in the next manifestation but in the present yes, we can manifest destiny... we truly can take control of our destiny! This is possible!
When I was young... 13 years of age I decided to go in search of God. I had to accomplish this goal under all circumstances. I was prepared to travel every extra mile... do whatever required but meet God in this very life! My commitment was hundred percent. There was no looking back ever. How many times I ate Hell for breakfast I do not remember but no dissuasion of any kind ever worked with me.
I had a motto... a burning goal of life! I had to succeed... come whatever may! How I completed my engineering... settled in my family profession... married and continued with life is not what I was after... I had to meet God at all costs in this very life.
At 37 years of age... 25 years ahead in the journey I ultimately realized God. Having reached the stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi... I can commune with God on one-to-one basis any moment of life. I had reached the end of the spiritual pursuit. I had scaled the Mount Everest of spiritual career... I had reached the end of cosmic life... the 8.4 millionth manifestation!
The moment I leave my mortal frame... I shall but go to the kingdom of God (aka Baikuntha in Hinduism). More on motto in Life - http://www.godrealized.org/one_life_to_live.html

My motto is like Jessie's, except I phrase it as "live in the moment." It's easy to waste your life regreting the past or worrying about the future. My mother used to say: "Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof", which is probably from the Bible, knowing my mom. It means the same thing--don't waste today worrying about what might happen later.

"Character above all". My mother may she rest in peace, always preached that motto. In fact when she signed my elementary high school year book bound leather notebook she signed it with that motto. It has been mine ever since.

Aristotle's famous maxim is mine: "Do Nothing in Excess".
Add this to total honest, and apportion to everything in your life priorities of worth, not unbalanced and unwarranted attention given to things and crazes and weaknesses that don't matter; in other words do each thing as it merits, and treat other men based on their honesty, their worth, their deserving. Never drop context. Define everything by science and reprogram your emotions for success.

Those who matter do not judge; those who judge do not matter....unknown....
The other one I follow is by Eleanor Roosevelt:
Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.
I tend to stay away from the small minds and my life is much more fulfilling! (small minds will betray you!)
