All speakers have magnets in them, or when there is a current flowing through the wire there is an induced magnetic effect (induced - electricity through wire causes the magnet to work).

The PC storage devices such as the Hard Drive use a magnetic device to record the information on the disk.

If you put a magnet too close to the disk then the magnetic particles on the disk move about and wipte the information (its OK - you can write over that part, just you loose the info).

So is it safe to put your speaker on the pc case? Well, it depends how small the case is of each (how near the hard drive the magnet can get), and how powerfull the speaker is - more powerfull speaker means more powerfull magnet.

Generally I wouldnt for stereo speakers, they are more powerfull than pc speakers - better safe than sorry afterll

You Can Put It On Top Of The Pc Tower. And Just Dont Put It Near The Monitor, OR Lcd Monitor. Just Dont Put It On The Side Of The Pc Tower. Because It May Effect The Motherboard ect.
On Top Is Safe.

No, it isn't a good idea to have any magnets near computer equipment.

It is not a myth, your hard drive and floppy drive data could be corrupted, though CD and DVD data will not be affected. Your stereo speaker does have a magnet inside. So do PC speakers, but they are shielded for just this reason.

Its not just the magnets you have to worry about, if you put speakers on top your tower and play your music loud the constant vibrations from the speaker will damege chips on the mother board and hard drive etc.

Yes it is ok to place objects on top of your pc tower, however you must be careful about the temperature of the device you are placing on top of the tower if it gets too hot, then: 1. Both devices could become damaged. 2. Large amounts of heat will be given off.

will be fine , wont affect it at all , the computer peices are all copper or gold, all other components the steel tower will absorb and diburse the magnetism , rendering the interference not on a scale enough to affect its use

I would not recomend it as the hard disk is often very near the top in most tower cases.

As hard disks can be effected by magnets.

It really depends on the size of the speaker.

better safe than sorry

it's fine. You have quite a bit of distance and shielding before any damage could happen. Unless you have one of the new compact towers like the Acer series.

i wouldnt for that reason.

i dont think computer speakers have magnets so thats why you could put them there, but regular house speakers do have the magnets and it seriously could mess up your computer
