I am a business traveler and need the C-PAP for my severe sleep apnea and must also bring a laptop. I do not want to risk checking either in due to loss/damage.

Yes, you most definitely can. I also have a C-PAP. Simply inform the gate agent that it is a medical device, and they are required to let you take it on the plane. With regards to the laptop, they aren't necessarily required to let you take it on as a carry-on; it shouldn't be a problem, but if they want you to do the gate stow thing, inform them that the laptop will be damaged by the cold weather conditions under the plane.

Here is another little secret: airlines are required to allow passengers to bring a bag on board if the bag contains prescription medications (which obviously may be needed during the flight). You may want to consider putting some in so that you won't have a problem getting it on.
