You really want to serve people... help the community! What is your standing... Have you become a Mahavira, Gautama Buddha, Jesus Christ or prophet Mohammed? What is it that you want to give to the society? What is it giving which the humanity would improve its ways. What is that fundamental of life you want to teach... of which the society is unaware is!

When a person approached Mahavira wanting to serve the society... Mahavira the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism simply stated that before imparting any Wisdom to the society... become a Mahavira first. This is the fundamental teaching that is applicable to all. Why must we worry of what happens in the society. We all know that unless in position of power we cannot make much difference! Why not become something first and then give all a try!

Becoming a Mahavira... gaining enlightenment is the real gist of life. No human being can ever guide the humanity unless we reach the stage of enlightenment. We come across many people in daily life trying to convince us from their viewpoint. Are such people always successful in their attempts? Why not pursue the goal of our life and become what we truly desire in this life! Only then our attempts to improve the society may prove successful.

Like us... there are many wise people in the society who out of their own ego may not accept our truthful propositions. It is then we feel hurt. As proposed by Mahavira... it is better to pursue our goal of life and having accomplished that... do whatever we think is best for the society. Still, the onus always remains with the society whether they accept our teachings or not. More on a goal in life - http://www.vijaykumar.com/burning_desire.html

You are good hearted person. Everyone will like it. If you get involved in family, Friends there is less possibility of doing what you like unless there is backing from the nearest.

There are some organisations established by college students which help the needy persons or organisations.

In local or reputed news papers (like 'Sakal', 'Times of India' etc), they give detailed stories regularly who do lot of social work without even knowledge of general public. They need helping hands. You can establish your own organisation devoted to a special social cause of your liking.

There is a directory of social organisations published by 'Suhrud Pratishthan', Pune. Near by Ganeshotsava Mandals also can guide you. Just join any blood donation camp, talk with the sponsors or organisers and they also can get you involved. One such involvement will open flood gate of needy organisations before you.

It is not at all necessary to put your money into a social work. Your involvement with mind is most desired component.

God bless you.

As a student you can not do anything to humanity but you can do things, one study as the first among your class-mates and the other to make your parents / teachers and guardians happy and satisfied by your performance. Everything around you are merely dreams and you should ignore all until you come out with your qualificatin certificates to be a good, probably the best, citizen.

2. Love others. through small acts of love and kindness other will gravitate to you and your ways.
3. take a stand speak out when nessasary taking a stand shows involvment. you may not be able to help everyone but by standing on your principles, others may see the need to help and act on it. Every interaction you have with another person changes the world. with only 5 degress of seperation(You know someone who knows someone ect.) between every person on the planet. Please do followings :
a) Concentrate on your studies truthfully and try to achieve higher & higher.
b) Share your studious gainings with those who are poor in study to bring them up.
c) Save everyday some from your pocket money, accumelate and pay fee of one or more (if you can) poor student. For this don't take monetary assistance from your elders, this wouldn't bring the sense of self commitment in you.
d) After completing your routine studies, on holidays do some short of social service under guidence of your teacher or seniors (work for those who are unable, participate in cleaning / maintaining public places in your & neboughring localityies etc.).
But you must remember that study is the primary & the most prior duty for you and you must not lack on it.

A student can serve best by example. Your primary goal is acquiring learning. Finish this to the best of you abilities in a non-competitive fashion.

Once you have finished your studies, there will be plenty of opportunities to serve.

It is laudable that you have this orientation this early. Use this spirit to better equip yourself to serve.

Use your brains...

spread the word if you are tied up for actions now by blogs/friends/school etc... or you can adopt a highway mile... keep the environment clean around it, or do it at home, recycle & save water, or volunteer missions here & abroad to help abused women/children... use your music to spread peace (John Lennon, U2, Nikelback, Greenday etc.)

Do our part.... every bit help!

Volunteer work may be an option.

The virtuous aspects are sufficient to make volunteer work a worthwhile cause, but you may also make some excellent social networking contacts and gain additional résumé material.

Good luck, and post additional comments, updates, and edits as you see fit.
