There are many choices available out there. Being on 22 1/2 acres, you'll want a "yard cart"....big knobby tires. Briggs & Straton or Tecumseh 5hp are two great engines to look for. If you feel that it's too fast for your 8 year old, install a govenor on the carb. Talk to the person where you buy the cart from as to which one is best. There are different govenors that will decreese the speed/power to different degrees. As for being too young, or loosing interst, the PKA (Premier Karting Association) has racing groups that start at age 5. My nephews statred racing around 8 or 9 years old and have stuck with it ever since. Hope this helps.

GO KARTING is fun and very unsafe. Being so low the karts are not seen very well by cars. even if the kid says I won't drive in on the road? They will be playing in the street. 8 years old is to young to have your kid smashed by traffic. Most small cheep fun karts run well with a 5 horse power Subaru lark engine. Expect the child to loose interest after only one year or so. 8 years old should be out riding his or her bicycle you get out there too! You have to teach them respect for traffic and the laws about driving a motorized vehicle on the street is illegal
