Well it's due to a tragedy, not due to something you did so try to talk to her and see if you can help, but if not leave her alone till she feels better or else she'll just think you're nosy. If she doesn't want to talk about it don't try to make her. Good luck to you and your friend.

Give your friend some space. Try not to push too hard, just let your friend know you are there for her/him.
