Why is it that people who claim to be animal lovers support such dreadful atrocities towards our four legged friends by purchasing products Made in China?
China subjects live animals to terrible attrocities causing excruciating pain, suffering and death.
So called animal lovers spend a fortune in pet shops that stock and sell products made by the very same regime that is so barbaric. Why?
Surely if you love cats and dogs, you do not part with your money to support a regime that skins cats and dogs ALIVE for fur, feeds LIVE animals to big cats for family entertainment.
But every day pet owners flock to pet stores,( who know about this cruelty but dont care because they make BIG profits out of cheap Chinese goods) and buy products endorsing this despicable, cruel industry.

The fact that the US or anyone else is also cruel to animals does not justify this barbarity. Two wrongs dont make a right.
I am not from the US and have not endorsed or condemned their record of animal cruelty.
All cruelty is wrong, the fact that China is the worst offender and that we patronise their products and fund their despicable actions by doing so!

Thanks for the information - I actually didn't know about what they do to animals in China. Next time I will look and make sure I don't purchase anything made in China. But to answer you question I think people buy these products for one of the two following reasons : 1) They don't know about this and 2) Maybe they have no choice if the only products they can find are made in China. They can't let their pet go without!
With time you become more informed. After my cat went missing I started finding out more and more about pounds and animal shelters and I now will never buy a pet from a pet shop. I will always try to save a life from a pound!

For all of your bashing of the Chinese and their way of life, Let me remind you that the US and most of its allies are NO better, not even a little. Some of the cruel practices that WE engage in here at home with our animals would curl your hair. There are an estimated 20 to 30 MILLION unwanted dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, goats, etc, who are euthanized yearly in the US alone. These are animals who are abandoned, or who were born wild, or pets whose owners refused to spay or neuter them. What we do to some of our livestock and food animals is even more horrifying, at least to me- and I eat meat !! It's no wonder that we keep seeing outbreaks of diseases such as E.coli and SARS. It would be surprising if we didn't- given the horrific conditions that some of our hogs, cattle, sheep and goats are kept in. Another thing- most of the pet shops here in the US are supplied by and get their animals from our own puppy and kitten mills- and those exist in every state, but PA is by far the worst when it comes to this. Animals that are born at these places have almost no chance whatever at any kind of a normal life- indeed, many of them are so inbred that they either have genetic diseases or they are viscious. Do you call THAT a humane practice? I sure don't , and I would be careful about criticizing other countries when the US desparately needs to get its own house in order. By the way, WE feed live animals to big cats in zoos too- and no one seems to pay any attention to it. Yes, the Chinese have some practices we don't like, but WE also have practices that THEY don't care for either, such as our capitalism and our emphasis on freedom and choices. So think about that before you start ranting about the Chinese or anyone else !!!

And your saying the US is better.
We only take baby calves from their mothers jam them in small crates so the meat isn't bruised. Feed them a very poor diet and then slaughter them.
We only jam hogs in small pens only to be used as a birthing machine. And they can't even turn around to properly care for their babies.
We jam chickens in small crates to produce eggs so we can eat that omelet. And what is done to the males. They are throw into grinders alive.
Let me get started on how we treat our dogs, cats etc. We go and get that cute little puppy. Oh he is just great until he reaches about 1 year old. Then he is to much to handle, too big, not getting along with the new dog. So what do we do? The humane thing is to take him to a shelter. No we dump them assuming some else wants our problem. When in reality they are shot, poisoned and picked up by someone else and taken to the pound.
We starve them, beat them, don't get vet care etc. etc.
We can't point the finger at china or any other country when our own backyard is just as filthy.
India - Some of those people think it is bad that we eat cows. Don't stop us does it?

Personnally I avoid buying anything made in China, exactly because of the way they treat animals, and even people on many occasions. Also because of the often bad quality of chinese products. However, if I buy an American or English cat food, how am I supposed to know if the company has bought ingredients from China? And I bet many of them do, because of the low prices. Unfortunately, in the globalised market we live in, it is impossible to limit your choices very strictly. I try to buy things and vegetables produced in my country (Greece), which are generally very good, but we don't really have an advanced pet food industry. So by all means, if you can suggest what products contain Chinese ingredients and which don't, let us know. Oh, and it would be essential to ban Canadian products too, because of the seal hunt they allow where baby seals are skinned alive, Japanese products, because of the whale and dolphin killing they promote, and teh list could go on...

Your thoughts are well-intentioned but you are sadly misinformed if you think animal cruelty on a mass scale isn't endorsed in the U.S. Ever been to a slaughter house? Well
these cows, hogs, and lambs aren't being gently put to sleep with a sedative!! No, they are strung up screaming in fear before their throats are slashed. Do you use medication, shampoo, deodorant etc. All of the ingredients were tested on mice, or cats, dogs, monkeys (often causing great pain or death) before the FDA put their stamp of approval on it. I'm
sorry to say that you are being just as hypocritical as those you denounce.

What products are 'Chinese based products'? What pet stores support this? This would be good information to include for us.
As far as feeding live animals to big cats...they would do that in the wild anyway. I can't agree with you there saying its cruel.

You really shouldn't be calling people hypocrites. Maybe they didn't read what you did. Also, are you willing to give up your computer or other electronics? Or have you looked inside at some of the components on your "American made" computer? There's more made in China than meets the eye.

I buy American wherever I can. However, it's not just China that makes pet lovers hypocritical. There are so many ways we abuse our pets in the name of love in this country that I could go on for days and days.

Yeah that's fairly hypocritical. through eating meat, you're paying human beings to harm and kill animals. and likewise, animals concern death and don't opt to die. you may not comply with harm or kill somebody whom you like. it is ridiculous. That being pronounced, we don't even choose meat to stay to tell the story.

Everything is made in China! If we shouldn't shop at pet stores, where the hell are we supposed to buy our pet food. Let me know the name of a store that doesn't have anything Made In China, and I'll start shopping there.
