If it is a GM product between the years 1996-2000 it is probably the control valve body. You need to have it hooked to a diagnostic machine and if it shows an 1870 code, that's it. GM has a load of problems with this. Low end to fix is $350 if the torque converter is not blue or overheated and the transmission fluid is not burned and if the pan does not have any metal fragments or clutch material in it. You can google the GM service bulletin about code p1870 and read all about it. We found it on OBDII.

This sounds like an electronically controlled transmission. Since I don't know the make and model of the car I would guess that the shift controller in the ecm needs to be reset. The shift points can be set by rpm, speed, or by load on the engine. I would take that back to the service center and tell them that they need to fix it right. If it isn't electronically controlled then check the governor on the side of the transmission. Make sure the vacuum line if attached and not leaking. If the vacuum line if good, hooked up, and not leaking try changing the governor. Sometimes when they replace transmissions the governor isn't included in the new one so they have to use the existing one. If the service center didn't check the governor before they replaced the transmission then they aren't doing their job. Good luck

Are you SURE the service center replaced the trans?
Most times the hard shifting is corrected by a regulator adjustment.
I have found that in most cases, a service center will tell you you need a new trans, rather than tell you the truth. They clean up the old one, make the adjustment, and charge you for a new one.
Take it to another trans shop and see what they tell you. But, don't tell them what you already had done.
I knew a service man that told me that when they drain the trans., they put a bit of metal chips in the oil they show you and tell you your trans is bad.

Have you changed the tranny fluid and filter? It is actually quite simple to change, just be prepared to get oily... You have to take all the pan bolts out of the rear of the pan and start easing the front 4 or 5 bolts out letting the rear drop slowly down to release spilling fluid. The filter is simple, there might be a screw holding it up in place, but simply slips right out after that... Some trannys have a magnet in the bottom of the pan, clean it off from metal and put it back in when going in with the pan.
A good "Hanes Manual" from your local auto parts store for the model of car you own is one handy tool to have. Usually sell for $18 and also include alot of troubleshooting and diagnostic tips...

Could be a number of things , but in my case it was a loose u joint in the drive axle with one car. The bands may be causing a shift at the wrong speed if not adjusted correctly. In some cars namley a ford there is a speed gear i forget the name, but it is specific for each type car and has a wire attached to it to electronically detect the speed rotation of the gears and thus shifts at the proper time. Take it to a trans shop for an evaluation.

If the gearbox is known to be fine (after replacement) then I would suggest a possibility is the gearbox wiring loom in the engine bay. If the gearbox is heavily dependent on electronics and sensor readings then a damaged loom could cause all sorts of bizzare problems. The loom could be chaffing, burned or wet with coolant somewhere which is corroding it.

Year make miles and model? Several things like line pressure throttle position sensor and current program in the engine control unit or electronic problems like grounds left off can cause shifting difficulty's.

you mean it down shifts hard coming back into 1st? if that what you mean then it,s idling too fast. clean the throttle body and idle air control.
