After time, the dimensions are Sleepy, Dopey, Doc, Grumpy, Bashful, Happy, and Sneezy. They are named after the most prominent character traits of the seven professors that discovered them, according to their students:-)
Seriously, 11 dimensions was chosen in string theory because that's the minimum number of dimensions the theory can have in order to avoid the occurrence of infinite property values when you try to calculate things. This has always been a problem with the standard model of particle physics. It requires mathematical trickery called "renormalization" to get rid of the infinities. This is essentially dividing all the infinities by infinity so that at least the values are indeterminate. The values must then be determined by experiment. The Stringers are too Platonic in their philosophy to tolerate such inelegance, so 11 dimensions it is. They just role the extra 7 up in a tight little ball to small to be seen to get 4 observable one in a mathematical procedure with the Latin name "ruggus sweepus underus". 26 or something works too, but, as the critics of Copernicus said in regard to the lack of a noticeable (at the time) stellar parallax, "the universe couldn't possibly be that big". If I've given you the impression that there is a certain amount of capriciousness to the whole theory of strings, I've been successful.

Relativity believes that the 4th is for time. But some consider it just another spatial, meaning worldly, dimension.
O, and there are only 10 dimensions but people say 11 because they count the 0 dimension as a dimension.
One way to look at dimension is to start at 1. the first one is a point. Then second one is a line. But a line is like an infinite points all put together so there is no space between them. After that comes the plane, but the plane is like an infinate about of lines all lined on top of them. Then comes the 4th dimension in which infinite # of planes are lined up on top of each other. Then for the 5, the infinite # of planes for the 4th dimension are lined up. and so on for the 6th.
Here is a very good web www.tenthdimension.com/ which has flash animation to explain all dimensions.

Mathematically Dimensions describes "n space". where n is the number of dimensions .Randoms variables have multiple dimensions and can be intergrated as an abstract volume of space.
Normal space has 3 physical dimension . Our system of measurement on earth uses four basic quantities ,which are distance(meters),time(seconds),Angle direction(degrees)and Mass(kilograms).
With these quantities were are able to determine volume of space displacement and the oscilation time of the cyclic displacement of mass(a moving quantity) .
So the real world has entities that we can touch and describes what we touch and feel as a quantity.
So mathematics goes beyond the real world and goes into the abstract.
Physics uses mathematics to formulate abstracts volume of space. These type of volumes are called manifolds which is an imaginary space that may or may not represent reality.
Einstein used such a manifold (spacetime)in his field equation .
Sting theories uses a manifold up to 26 dimensions.Never the less no matter how many dimension is used to represent the space phenomena, the 4 basic quantities of the Universe always apply. Note ,time is not a dimension;its a quantity. This is where scientific dilemma sets in.

those that are into Physics Majors or Math Majors provide help to comprehend that each and every person the different dimensions after the 4th exist on the sub-atomic point. and prefer somebody already talked approximately, gravity purposes at those extra dimensions yet starts to get eratic, a minimum of on paper besides (math fashions), as you pass further way from the 10th length. i think the better area of those different dimensions is it supplies super textile for writing technology fiction novels.

There are so many dimensions that I shudder to think of them all and most of them are not necessarily dimensions anyway but more pink elephants with blue polka dots. By that I mean they are theories so the only place most of them exist is in the mind. There are numerous too that go along with principles of math and things like time, space, blackholes, parallel universes, Hamel, Hilbert, M theory, String theory and so forh. String theory is like an atom full of electrons with shells and energy levels. It is mind boggling and I guess the third dimension is supposed to be where Casper lives. There are very many more claimed than 11.1

Sounds like you've been reading about 'String Theory', the THEORY that has consumed more of physicists' time / professions since life began on Earth.
There are an infinite number of dimensions — they are being formed continuously. I believe these dimensions are in different universes, one of which is the parent of ours.
The black holes in our universe send matter into new universes. When a black hole in our universe is active — when matter is being consumed — the matter gets stretched / shredded down to pure energy, and it is spit out into a new universe.
What does it look like when energy enters a universe from another?...I don't know, but it certainly isn't a 'Big Bang'...more like a slow stream of energy that converts to matter, that dries up periodically, and restarts, until there is no more matter for the black hole in the parent universe to consume. ♪♫

They are the fifth, sixth, seventh and so on dimensions.
But seriously, they are belived to be degenerated, as I have read. That's why we observe only 4.

Right now, they are needed to make the math work. The contention is that they are so small and rolled up that we have no access to them.
