It's probably because seventeen is barely out of high school, and people are wondering whether or not she was going to wait another year and get her high school diploma. They probably wouldn't be happy if Jordin suddenly dropped out of school at that age to begin her career.
I would have no problem with this if she were my daughter, and would probably let this music career experience serve as her college education. Doesn't mean I'm going to like her music any less. I mean, Avril Lavigne also dropped out of school at 17 and moved to Los Angeles to begin HER career, and she DOES make good music.

Well I was amazed that she was 17 too [Though I have watched this entire season]. Her voice is SO beautiful its just astonishing! The way she dresses and how tall she is makes her seem 21+. I do agree that she doesn't look or sing like a 17 year old! People shouldn't look at all her flaws. The people that dislike her say shes so huge, she looks like an ogre, etc. they are just jealous she's totally pretty and real women have curves! Skinny is out thick is in only a dog wants a bone...GO J. Sparks!

Probably because she is so mature for her age and presents herself very well and has such amazing talent for being so young.
She shows calm, poise, maturity, grace and talent - all under pressure and most "kids" her age can NOT.
She deserved to win - She is not a skinny size 0 air head - that will have to "lip sync" at her own concerts.
She is going to be very popular and amazing - she will show young teen girls that you do not have to be a size 0 to be famous.

she is only 17 i thought she was 28 and i thought she was in undercover as a contestant so she could be the janitor. because that is her future job she just wanted to get good at it
have not watched american idol in a couple weeks (after sanjaya went off so mad!)

People are just amazed that someone that young had that incrediable stage presence and powerful voice.Also for being just 17 she showed great poise and grace when being given criticism.

I don't know what her age has to do with anything. She's talented, that's all people should focus on.
