It's not a sitcom, it's a Brit-com. Seriously, it's a real classification of TV programmes. Look it up if you like.
YES! Definately one of the funniest smegging programmes ever to air. And Rimmer was a bit of a stud in his khaki uniform, but much more hunky as his pseudo-American alter ego Ace Rimmer. lol
God, I loved that programme.

Of course it's a sitcom and a brilliant one at that. I didn't like the original Kryton but Robert Lewellen (not the correct spelling, please excuse me) is brilliant and the four just gelled.
Chris Barrie was a genius in making his character as unfanciable as possible ... arrogant, egotistical, selfish etc which is why they created Ace Rimmer; to be the opposite of Arnie. Chris got a chance to be the 'big screen hero' with Ace but to be honest, I liked Arnie better. I could identify mroe with him than with suave and handsome Ace. Arnie was convinced of his talents but so often failed to rise to the occasion .. he was human (even though in most of the episodes, he was dead.

lol, i only even heard of that late last year, my ex loved it and so we'd watch it. it was very funny, the earlier episodes were anyway, i think they got a bit worse as they went on, but then again, i was watching one straight after another, not as fresh after a while. I suppose it was a sitcom yes.

I loved it! The only seasons I'd seen were 6 and 7, and they were on BBC America, but it was hilarious. The butler in the Lara Croft movies is Craig Charles (he played Rimmer in Red Dwarf), the host of Robot Wars (Britian) was the guy named Lister, and Robert Llewyln (Crighton) was the host of a season of Junkyard Wars.

I loved Red Dwarf as a teenager. It was the only British comedy I actually liked. Especially when that one dude goes to prison and he goes into a zone where whatever harm he attempts to do to another he actually inflicts on himself. I know. Slap stick... but still.

ok, so your an editors fan and red dwarf?! Marry me lol.
Anyway, red dwarf is without a doubt the greatest sci-fi comedy...series 6 was the best, when they were all cowboys in the videogame..
Rimmer ruled, "goal post head" hehe.

I think you could call it a sci-fi sitcom...
I think that it's uniqueness made it brilliant. There was nothing like it before, and there hasn't been anything like it since. And it was brutally funny :o)
