Marriage was came about in the beginning of time. Starting with Adam and Eve they were the first married couple.

Long before the first civilization, Ancient Egyptians (but possibly the same people!). The ritual of hand fasting going right back to when humanoids and Neanderthals worshiped the sun and the moon. A man and woman would hold hands, some weed would be wrapped around their hands as a sign of dedication and then that would be it. Pretty simple.
As to why, the reason is simply to prevent the social troubles arising from it. How many people no matter religion or history book got killed from jealousy, lust, claim to parentage etc... (Old times people would state their name and then I am son of... I am daughter of... so parentage held great importance). Also divorce was always possible back then its just simply a society and moral control.

Marriage was invented by lawyers when they invented divorce while thinking of some way to cause misery and trouble between partners Oh! one said, how about getting the woman to want as much as she can from the man who keeps tashing about with all the girls.How? said the other thats normal.Well if we make it that one man stays with one woman and call it marriage we know that can never happen as its not normal so we can get a lot of money by helping them to get out of it and we will call this divorce then the man can go back to his travels and the woman can get the cash. Marriage comes from God. You are with your parents as a child and when you become a man you leave your parents for your wife. Read the Holy Bible if you want all the answers, I suggest the New Living translation because it is written in plain modern English.

i don't know and i doubt if anyone does but never like today stag parties/ hen parties all abroad then a lavish do that can cost 15/20 thousands pounds wedding dress a small fortune and all the trimmings Rolls Royce nothing less and after a year skint and wishing they had just gone to the reg office and if they could find the guy who invented it to strangle him
