Dell dominate the PC/Laptop sales all over the world really. Erm... when i was out looking for a laptop i spent about 3 months research for it, here were the "results" if you like:
- Dell provides a great no hastle, quality service, great machines (you decide exactly what you want in you laptop) and guarantee services but all at around £50-£100 more than anywhere else.
- PC World provide a reasonably good serivce (not as good as Dell though) however, their laptops are cheaper, on the other hand, there is less choice.
- eBay, don't go there!
- Other local shops "Currys","Comet" and "Dixons" are all the same. They provide average services and reasonable laptops, that are slightly low priced (when a sale is on) but there isn't much choice.
(for me) The verdict was to go for Dell,
Hope you can put my answer to good use!!

Apple is great. I have one and really love it.
Once you have an Apple(MAC), you will forget the boring PC. It is also easy to use and has very nice graphic/icons.
The service is excellent and you can update/upgrade your solfware to the new version online(do not need to buy a new version all the time).
You can get a discount if you are a student. Apple store in Oxford St. is also helpful.
I think Dell is not fashionable, too big and heavy. Eventhough you buy the new one, it is look like an old laptop already. My company uses Dell and I just hate it!!

A thought. There are many excelent pc's out there with only 2 ports.
How about a 2 or 4 port pcmcia card?
How about adding a 4 or 8 port powered usb hub?

Dell does not make good computers. Instead, you should buy a Toshiba laptop.

don't focus on the number of usb's. there are a lot of computers out there with only 2 usb's but are worth checking out. just buy the best laptop you can afford then buy an external usb hub if you need lots of usb ports :)

Dell are good, the aftercare is worth having. Otherwise, keep your eyes peeled for offers in the usual stores, occasionally they are quite good.
