I need to replace the battery on my bike and am wondering what is best the acid or gel as I dont get to use it much and need one that will last longer while the bike is parked up and alarm is on.

Absorbed glass mat (gel) batteries are completely sealed and ready-to-use out of the box! No need to mess with water and acid. The lack of free electrolyte reduces resistance and produces 25% more cranking amperage than an acid filled battery.
The liquid-free design allows you to mount it almost anyway you want (but not upside down) and means that it can be shipped by UPS air, if you're in a hurry to get it!
The 2% monthly self-discharge rate means your bike can sit for extended periods without constant monitoring or recharging.

Gel batteries are the latest thing out there, they use a gel medium in place of the standard liquid base used in acid batteries.
There are several advantages of them over acid batteries, first they hold a charge better, they give a slightly higher out put, they are far less prone to leaks from either cracks or over charging.

Go with the gel, they are designed to be long lasting, maintenance free, and sit for long periods.

These sealed batteries are built to perform. Multiple features like Absorbed Glass Mat technology showcase a completely sealed and maintenance-free battery that provides the power needed for motorcycles.

Hi.
Gel batteries are the modern equvilent of the old lead acid battery. Instead of an acid in water solution, they use a gel to hold the electrolyte. In general, although slightly dearer, they are better than the old type as they hold a charge better, are easier to recharge when flat and I'm told they produce more AmpH than their counterpart.
Hope this helps.
