A small retail company ordered a server for hosting an accounting and sales application system the company has only 5 terminals which can access this application and their sales are not that much.
They bought this server through an agent to import the server on their behalf for the cost of $4000 its now 4 months the server has not been delivered so the question is
1. Is buying a server a good decision ..as you can still get a powerful normal pc to be your server.
2. Is $4000 reasonable for a server.

1. Depend on your budget and needs
2. Yes and no, depend on specs on it.

I deal with servers all the time, from tiny office to larger corp companies, yes you can run an office from almost any computers as long as it has enough space and power, but a good company would use one with some type of redundancy, ie, RAID-1 for data mirroring, and the software you choose on it also make a huge difference, Small Business 2003 is cheap, powerful and easily managed, but adds around $1'000 for 10 users to the total cost.
