Apply as a Justice in the Court of Appeals after being a judge. There is no other good choice except when you are enticed to join a private company.

I see a lot of former judges working as mediators. They are pretty good at sizing up the merits of lawsuits, and they know how juries will react to different scenarios, and they also know the risks of litigation. They can be very effective in bringing both sides to an understanding that it is in everyone's best interest to settle if at all possible.
