You've just answered the question 'how do you mess up BIG TIME!'
You barely knew this guy and you gave him the Holy Grail of how to contact you. If he's on the level, ok, but from your question, it seems that he phoned you JUST to hear your voice (that sounds weird enough or at least as if he was checking to see that the number you gave was real). I don't know what age you are, the younger you are, the more complicated the solution...
If this man calls back, you can tell him you'd prefer he used say email or whatever to maintain a distance, but it's really debatable if he will respect this.
WHY WHY WHY would you give a practical stranger your telephone number! Now you have no control over your family's privacy coz you can't ask for the number back. If he has a 'sense of humour' you might find yourself getting phoned by weirdos at all hours of the day or night who have seen your number on phone boxes, public toilets, etc...
As a minimum, get in touch with the phone company and get that number changed, PRONTO (there is likely to be a charge attached to this - but ask yourself, what price privacy)
If you are really young, you are going to have to explain yourself, to your parents (GOOD LUCK) and YOU WILL BE GROUNDED FOREVER. The police may get involved!
Someone's also going to have to give a reason for the changed phone number to your real friends
This needs to be done NOW

Just tell him not to call you unless you ask, you can even say that you have low minutes on your phone or something. If he still calls after that, block his phone number.

What about your family's narrow-mindedness? Anyways, if he does ever call you, tell him that you are currently seeing someone and that you would prefer it if he didn't call. Tell him to give you his number in case you get out of your current relationship.
