I know what you mean. I still have my Atari, but I miss the Comodore 64; that thing taught me how to type-useful and fun!

Never had the Atari home computer system, though we did have both the original 2600 console and then a later re-release of the 2600 the was by far more compact yet still featured all the same features. And while I still have access to the 2600, there have been a number of times I've missed it.
Our first computer, however, was a Commodore 64, which actually gave me my first ever experince programming a computer (something I haven't done in well over a decade). While I look back on it fondly, I can't really say I miss it. We never could do very much with it as we didn't have much in the way of material or add-on features. We had maybe two books telling us how to write programs to actually use the computer and the tape drive with one or two tapes for saving the very few things we ever did on it. The only things I recall we ever did was a hangman program and a math program. And as I recall the latter one had no randomization which basically made it nothing but a memorize the questions and answers without actually using your head. I was actually learning more off the 2600 console thanks to games like Math Grand Prix and Word Zapper than I was the C64.
We got the C64 in the early '80s and by at least the fall of '86 we were no longer using it (nope, note because we got bored with very little we could do with it, more because something went wrong with it's power source and we couldn't afford to replace it). It was about '88-'89 before we got another computer. A used Cordata which also allowed us to pick up some extra software. It had a states and their capitals game on the hard drive and the programs we first got for it included "Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego" and First Choice word processor and spreadsheet. And with the ability to buy cheap Shareware and other software (I picked up a basic chemistry program and at least a couple of astronomy programs along with tons of games while my parents picked up things like typing tutors, Print Shop, etc. that I also got to use), I not only learned more from the Cordata, I also had more fun with it and was much more productive with it. So I actually have fonder memories of the Cordata than our first computer.

Haha yeah. Fortunately I still have an old Atari 2600 with about 80 games. I really enjoy the Football game... for it's crude simplicity, it's really addicting.
I'm looking to buy a Commodore 64 setup as well, just for old times sake. I learned how to program on that thing! Good times.

I very badly miss when I use to constantly use a commadore 64 and it was the best computer I had seen me and my brother were very young I was like 7 but we already were learning to program on it and there were so many intresting games and it seams weird that back then running the game wasnt enough you had to type load "*" ,8 ,9 or something to make it work and the games were often made by one person instead of a whole company, and you could access the game code and reprogram it if you wanted to, ahhhhh those were the good old days when programers were people and devolopers wanted you too have fun instead of charging you 50 dollars for a pile of highly animated crap

Well you can't miss something you have. I still have my Atari 7200. My games play so-so, but its always fun to pull out once and a while. I always loved Video Pinball and Yar's Revenge. But I also have my NES, SNES, and Sega Genesis hooked up and ready to go. The only new console I am missing is the PS3, and I am waiting for better games to come out.

It's possible to play a lot of that stuff on computers today. If you know where to look, you can still get it all for free.
