i feel dumb but need this answer

Well I went to Fresno State and I live in the central valley and have never heard of province used to describe sections of land here in Ca. Districts yes (but that is only divided up by the senator that precides over that "district")
Here I believe what may be the same is "county"
Fresno is in Fresno County.
I work in Modesto which is Stanislaus County and I live in San Joaquin county

as far as I know Canada has provinces, we here in the US have states, not provinces. So you live in California, which is a state. I suggest you google province and see what they have to offer on the subject, perhaps other countries also use provinces, like France. Remember, no question is a dumb question.
