Stand by me was orginally recorded by Ben E King, and then later covered by John Lennon. I have never heard Marvin Gaye sing that song....mostly because it was not a Motown release.

He didn't release it as a single. It could have been a remake on one of his albums. The song Stand By Me was sung by Ben E. King.
