I like the name Eleanor because I think it's classic and intellectual but it can be made a childs name by calling the child Ella or Ellie. My boyfriend thinks it's an old lady's name and I just wanted someone elses opinion.

The full name, if used would probably be Eleanor Leigh Hart.

We have a lot of names that have to be knocked out because of family.

Jocelyn, Jared, Brianna, Aaron, Austin, Owen, Bryan, Haley, Megan, Emily, Scott, David, Ryan, Catherine, Karen, Timothy, John, Jack , Elizabeth, Ellen, James, Joseph, Valerie, Juliana, Daniel, Kelsey, Clayton, Alan, Thomas, Robert, Jennifer, Kelly... and there's more... so I'm trying to find a name that no one will have or even take... but I still want to like it... I just don't want my child to be picked on too much for their name.

I think its important to focus on how the child will carry the name into adulthood. If you like a name make sure that it isn't something that other children will make fun of. Give the child a middle name or nick name that might be easier to spell or pronounce. Sometimes its just important to keep simplicity in mind. I think your idea of calling the child Ella or Ellie is a good idea. But take your boyfriends thoughts into consideration and ask him his thoughts on a classic name choice. Here's a few more names to get you started. Hope this helps.

Girls: Ann, Amelia, Barbara, Elizabeth, Emily, Frances, Gretchen, Marie, Olivia, Patrice, Stephanie, Victoria

Boys: Andrew, Adam, Benjamin, David, Eli, Malachi, Nicholas, Peter, Paul, Steven, William

Good luck

I like the name Eleanor but i would probably call her Elly or Ella for short and you are right it is a bit old fashioned but with some of the names they are coming up with now that wouldnt be a problem and if it was not a huge one.

I think Eleanor is a very cute, classy name that the child can grow up with and be satisfied. You could call her Nora, Ella, Ellie, Elana, all kinds of nick names suit it, and who cares if the other kids at school dont like it? The child will have friends as long as she is a good friend and a nice girl! Dont be worried about that!
God bless and happy naming!

I think it's beautiful, I would also shorten it for a child.

You know, my given name is Emily, when I was named, almost three decades ago, my grandmother asked my mother why she would give me such an old-fashioned name. Little did Grandma know that I would be going to school with four other Emily's and a few years after I was born, it was the most popular baby name (after Jennifer, of course!)

I say, if you like it, go for it. Ultimately, it's you and bf's choice, but you do need to agree. Good Luck!

Eleanor is a beautiful name but it doesn't sound like a baby's name.. It is more to a lady's name.

If you still want to name your child Eleanor, call her Ellie when she's young.. :)

Eleanor Leigh Hart sounds like a lady from a noble family.. Sounds very pretty and classy :)

It's a tad old fashioned. I think of Eleanor Roosevelt. Plus, on the first day of school they always call out your whole name. So, the nick name probably isn't going to help much.

YES - totally old-fashioned sounding...even though Old Lady names seem to be making a comeback lately...ie. Charlotte, Madeline etc....I think Eleanor should be given a miss. Elle and Ellie are adorable....what not just call your daughter Elle and skip the heartache of giving her a senior citizen's name?

I wouldnt worry about the "old fashioned" thing. Girls names are always coming in & out of style.
Ten years ago anyone would have told you Grace, Emma, Emily & Abigail are all old lady names that you shouldnt use but they "came back into style" and now every kindergarten class has several of each.
