The roll of the government is very clearly spelled out in the constitution. Anything not in there is illegal and unconstitutional. This was a truly inspired document and should be read by all citizens! The government is way beyond this limit and I do mean way beyond! Things like the illegal war, the Federal Reserve System and the IRS are just a few things at the top of the page. This country used to be much freer and universally respected by the whole world. The march to empire is only the latest thing killing us. It is way past time to get back to our roots with a true constitutional republic (It is not a Democracy!). The main thing we can do to start this rebuilding process is to support Dr. Ron Paul! Would you believe a politician that has voted for the constitution 100% of the time? Would you believe a politician that tells the truth even if we don’t want to hear it? The Doctor is of the highest caliber and a candidate like this country has not had since colonial times

There could be minimum place of government. The shape as written and as meant is the suitable occasion: Federal government could confirm that commerce is common (i.e. alter commerce) via no longer allowing states to blockade roads between states or private industries bodily barring get right of entry to into the loose marketplace. previous that, controlling our financial coverage, lending costs, how plenty wheat a farmer can produce: it relatively is all way too plenty. to make sparkling: this would not advise that the government could grant something. only determine there is not any entity status interior the way. If the states and/or private industries do no longer grant a highway, then a highway replaced into no longer mandatory. If it have been mandatory, there is income and which would be on the community stages of government or private marketplace.

Vague question, but I will answer like this.

The Federal Government's role in regard to citizens (and every matter) should be as EXACTLY defined in the U.S. Constitution.

That is much, much, much, much, etc. less a role than is seen today.

That's a good question. I've been pondering it for awhile, particularly whether the government should be responsible for minimum subsistence requirements for all citizens. On one hand, I believe all adults should be self-supporting. On the other hand, people do find themselves in circumstances beyond their control - and in those cases, is it more harmful to society to let them sink, or to help them tread water?

I do think it's the government's job to act as the voice or focal point for the country as a whole in matters of defense, as well as to provide for safety within its boundaries.

As far as taxes vs services, those have sort of developed over the years to a level of expectation (fire departments, libraries, schools, etc), but those are local rather than federal.

Novel thought, but , how about following the constitution.
Whatever happened to government of the people ,by the people & for the people?
Don't recall seeing anything about government by big business or special interest groups.

To protect their essential liberties, and to otherwise leave them entirely free and unrestricted to conduct their own affairs. That means no welfare (unless you absolutely cannot work to support yourself), no special programs (wide-ranging, supporting anything from libraries to schools to Social Security), very low taxes (only enough to support the government, the military, and essential services which private individuals absolutely cannot provide, like police and emergency services), you get the idea. Oh, and no legislation which tells people how to live their lives. That's a big one with me.
