I live in an apartment in the dallas area that does not offer handicap access for residents. I was wondering are apartments required to have handicap parking or some form of disability acess for residents who have trouble walking? If so, who would I need to contact?

I have a foot injury that requires me to use crutches and a walking boot for a month and have a *temporary* handicap sticker.

I always thought that apartment complexes had to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act, but there are a lot of complexes that don't have any easy access for disabled people. The person to contact to find out would be the company who owns your complex or the landlord if it's privately owned.

Handicapped access is generally required but it depends on the building and who owns it. Sometimes a building can be grandfathered, meaning the building can get away with following older rules rather than adhering to the new ones. Check with the city hall or check ADA regs.

HELLO,

APARTMENTS ARE PRIVATE ESTABLISHMENTS.
PUBLIC PLACES ARE REQUIRED BY THE AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT TO PROVIDE HANDICAP PARKING.

I would contact an Association for Realtors in your area. They deal with rental, commercial, and residential issues of all sort.
