All parts of Lily of the Valley are poisonous so do not grow it where young children are about as the red berries that follow the flowers can be especially attractive to small children. Also keep them away from pets.

Symptoms may include: Gastro-intestinal disturbance, irregular pulse, excessive salivation and dilated pupils.

Note: Few reported cases of fatal poisoning in horses.

Yes, Lily of the Valley is toxic. It affects heart rhythm but it is not a cumulative toxin like digitalis. Side effects include: cardiac arrhythmias, nausea and vomiting.
