There are a few changes that I need to make (monroe county, MI) in my divorce decree. If the ex-spouse is agreeable to the changes, what forms do I fill out to send to Probate so that my decree can be amended? If he is not agreeable, then what steps do I take? I am trying to do this without a lawyer, as it is a pretty simple case, I just need to know what forms to fill out, and in what order. Thank you so much!

This concerns minor children, so it is able to be amended, for those of you who are ignorant of the law. I just need to know the names of the forms I need to fill out. I have called the courthouse, but they were little help. They advised me to hire a laywer, which I really would rather not do, especially if the Defendant is in agreement.

Without money, attorneys are usless. Not knowing what changes you need to make I am going to assume that it involves children. There is a simple form called "Simplified Change Request for support and custody" You can find it on the internet if you search, Michigan Superior Court forms". Look for the approved forms for dissolution, miscellaneous or child support and custody. It is usually there and will have instructions for filling it out. If you have PDF you may be able to fill the forms before printing. Most forms come with instructions and relatively simply, mostly information. The information sheet will tell you if there has to be an attachment to the form and the filing fee. I am involved in some of the same stuff and if you are computer literate and your ex is in agreement it should be pretty easy. You can email me if you need further help. Attorneys have made it complicated for some and it doesn't take too much to see the "how to" for agreeable ex's. You might also try your local paralegal assisted. Sometimes there are paralegals that help people in the same situation as a community service or a very small fee, maybe showing you the form for nothing. Good luck.

you cannot 'amend' the divorce decree. There are only certain issues that can be modified after a divorce is final. They include child support, visitation, alimony (in certain instances) and child custody.
property settlements can only be modified if there was a fraud upon the court as in one party failed to disclose assets or ownership in an asset.
Therefor, to properly answer your question we would need to know exactly what it is you wish to modify, the reasons and how long ago your divorce was granted.

Those you spoke with at the court house were right, you SHOULD hire a lawyer for this as it needs to go through the court system. There is a saying "A man who represents himself in court has both a fool for a client and a fool for a lawyer". This also applies for females. You might want to heed it's warning.

your decree sounds typical. Most judges will not waiver from it. Sorry to tell you that. With the airlines of today, you can tell the preservationist that you have a 5 year old traveling to see their father/mother and a liaison will accompany them from boarding to landing. Will not leave their side and will most times provide a detail diary of what they did in flight. You have no excuses to deny him.

Contact your local district attorney's office and speak to someone there. They can tell you what forms need to be filed and how to do it.
