The torch on the reverse side of a dime represents liberty, the olive branch represents peace and the oak branch strength and independence.

What the U.S. mint has neglected to mention on currently minted dimes however, is that, with the advent of the Bush administration, the torch has been doused, the olive branch has been burned and the oak branch allowed to wither and die. We are now a nation of anti-peace loving war mongers, ostensibly led by an incompetent moron who has sapped the moral strength of the country, replacing it with military might instead and whose rule is totally dependent on, rather than independent of, the use of fear to accomplish his goals.

RE:
On the back of the Dime there is a torch and leaves. What does this symbolize?

For me, a leaf symbolizes selflessness. It is created for a single purpose, to provide energy to the plant, and it is discarded the moment it outlives its usefulness. You never get the sense, however, that the leaf would be angry at the tree, or that it would have preferred to be something else. It is satisfied with the its role in life, does its job as well as it can for as long as it's needed, and simply floats away when it's over. We could all learn a lesson from leaves.
