So I just made a new computer, motherboard is ASUS A8N32-SLI Delux and I was trying to get my internet to work. I have an old Linksys WMP11 Wireless-B PCI card, and it wasn't being automatically detected. Then when i finally got it to it said "device unable to work" or something. This was after manually doing it (add hardware ... etc) This is becomming very annoying, since it's not detected I can't access the Windows Wireless Zero w/e. Also, it was working fine on my old computer but now this happened, UGH. I already took apart my old computer. WHAT DO I DO! You have no idea how annoyed I am right now after spending hours on trying to fix it. Oh and I don thave the CD so I had to download it online. and I am running on Windows Professional XP

I had the same problem with that Linsys card on an Asus motherboard (different model). It finally worked after I put it in a different PCI slot.

If you had this card in another computer and you pulled it out and put it in a new motherboard your problem might be that the metal contacts have some oxidation on them.

Pull the card back out of the PCI slot. Take a regular pencil eraser and run it across the metal contacts on both sides a few times.

Then re-install the PCI card in the slot and make sure it goes all the way down but DO NOT force it in the slot.

Then turn on the computer and when XP boots up if it does not detect the card then re-install the drivers and after the drivers are installed the card should be detected.

If the card is not detected then pull the card out and put it into a different PCI slot. You might have a bad PCI slot on the motherboard.

If after you have done all this if the card is still not detected then the card is damaged. Either when you removed it from the old computer or when you installed it in the new one.

There are two steps you need to follow--installation and connection. For installation, download the proper driver from the linksys website and install. Then reboot. You might get a bubble message in the system tray that XP is recognizing new hardware. Give it a second. or two. By the way, I would think the card has a light to show its getting power.

For connection, go to control panel/network connections. If you do not see your card listed in the right pane, select Create a new connection. Press enter to start the wizzard and connect to the internet.

If the card IS listed in the right pane, check its status. If the status is "not connected", right click the card name and select "view available wireless networks". Another window will open with the networks. At times, I've had to hit the refresh button once or twice for the machine to detect the network. Once you find your network, highlight and click connect.

If this doesn't work, move the card to a different slot.
